The Deliverance x PlayGround Zoom Festival

Daysha’s newest full-length play, The Deliverance, which was also selected and developed under PlayGround-LA’s New Play Commission was selected for PlayGround’s 2021 Festival reading.

The Deliverance is an expansion of the 10-min play, Mother Earth Day, that digs deeper into history of the Howard Family farmlands and the family’s struggle to have faith in their land, their history, and each other as climate change and increasing racial tension in the country start to wreck havoc over the spiritual connection they have with the land. So, when an investor makes an offer on their land, the family is forced to consider a tough decision.

A free reading of the play will be stream via Zoom on Friday May 14, 2021.

UCLA x New York Theatre Workshop Presents The Write Choice by Daysha Veronica (2020 New Play Festival)

As part of her thesis requirement for the UCLA Playwriting MFA program, Daysha would like to invite you to attend a zoom reading of her thesis play and newest work, The Write Choice.

The Write Choice follows an insecure, young black writer who suffers a tragic loss in the family that sends her back to her childhood home. It is here that she discovers a photograph that inspires her to write her first play with the purpose of submitting it to a prominent new works program up in Portland. To everyone's shock, she wins. But when she shows up for the staged reading and discovers that her cast was not what she had originally envisioned for the piece, she is pushed into finding her own voice to ask for what she really wants amidst navigating the complicated racial power structures of the theater.

This play was workshopped for 4 weeks in collaboration with the award-winning New York Theatre Workshop as part of UCLA’s Department of Theatre New Play Festival.
