Waiting For Umoja Selected For People’s Choice Award at PlayGround-LA’s Monday Night Reading Series

Daysha’s newest 10-min play, Waiting For Umoja, which was written as part of PlayGround-LA’s Writer’s Pool for 2020-2021, was selected as the People’s Choice Award winner for PlayGround-LA’s Monday Night Reading Series in December 2020.

From October to March every year, PlayGround-LA holds a monthly reading series where it selects 6 new plays out of its writer’s pool to receive a lightly staged public reading. From those 6 plays presented for the evening, viewers get the chance to vote on which play was their favorite of the night.

Waiting For Umoja tells the story of a young black liberal feminist who tries to enlist her opinionated, conflicted family in celebrating Kwanzaa for the first time during quarantine in 2020. It is available to read on New Play Exchange.
