Waiting For Umoja Selected For PlayGround-LA’s Monday Night Reading Series December

Daysha’s newest 10-min play, Waiting For Umoja, which was written as part of PlayGround-LA’s Writer’s Pool for 2020-2021, was selected for PlayGround-LA’s Monday Night Reading Series.

From October to March every year, PlayGround-LA holds a monthly reading series where it selects 6 new plays out of its writer’s pool to receive a lightly staged public reading.

Waiting For Umoja tells the story of a young black woman who is determined to celebrate Kwanzaa with her opinionated new-age family in quarantine. The only problem is… Black people don’t celebrate Kwanzaa.
