POET
Daysha has been a lover of poetry all her life, but her introduction to spoken word poetry began in the summer of 2008. It was while studying black and LGBTQ theatre with the prestigious Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar (TASS) that she was first exposed to the medium and artists like StacyAnn Chin, Shihan, and the entire Def Jam poetry scene. She was completely enamored by how these artists were skillfully wielding their words to expose deep truths and pains about the human condition.
It was not long before she was hooked and spoken word became one of her favorite forms of artistic expression. Any pain, any heart break, any complex emotion she was feeling, she quietly turned to her pen and her paper to work through her emotions. And in 2015, while working for BuzzFeed as a video producer, she combined her spoken word background with her video production skills and began producing stylized spoken word videos that became mega viral internet sensations.
Only having produced five spoken word videos during her 4 years at BuzzFeed, Daysha’s videos generated over 90 million views across YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
